What I did on my summer (and autumn) “vacation”

Things have been very busy, and I have been pretty silent here, so I wanted to share something, even if I don't yet have the bandwidth to record topical videos for these posts as I would like to.

I produced a(nother) human!

A smiling baby lying on a quilt printed with bears, foxes, and owls, dressed in a gold shirt with a black collar and black pants, like a tiny Star Trek Original Series officer.

The newest member of our family's crew, reporting for duty.

Meet our cute little bean, who joined us at the end of May. Which was why I knew I wouldn't have much time for these letters and videos this summer. We are still trying to work out the right childcare schedule so that I can get back to those. I have some lined up I very much want to do. When I can use my non-client work time for recording, I will be doing it!🤞

I've been playing with Agentic AI

I started off using a harnessing toolkit from David Sparks for automating routine tasks. (Not offloading things like thinking or writing in my own voice — just the boring, annoying, and “mechanical” stuff.) That means more boring tasks get done, but I can't actually produce quality new content (like videos and newsletters) any faster. Though it has improved the workflow for putting out shorts from longer-form content. But those aren't as much fun as new videos.

Agentic AI does save some time and frustration, but it is also like gamifying unpleasant tasks. I intend that analogy in both the flattering and unflattering ways. Very much like the addictive mobile games, you set up a task and then have to check back later to “harvest your crops,” so to speak. If you don't use your resources (tokens) in time, they expire.

But it does mean that migrating my courses from their old platform to a new home has been shockingly un-painful. I've even looked forward to it on occasion! I'm done now, and you can find all the migrated courses in their new home. It's not pretty yet, but all the crucial content is there.

(If you had purchased one of these courses before, you should already have an email about migrating to the new home, and please let me know if you need any help!)

I have several agentic AI projects lined up to tackle next. But I am finding with a new child, I can't juggle as many active projects because now I have twice as many "children" projects. So my ideas have to wait their turn even more so than in previous times.

I am also anxiously awaiting OmniFocus's MCP (AI connector) to test some hypotheses about how using AI may interact with my ADHD task management system. And speaking of ADHD task management...

Catch me in Baltimore on Friday, December 4, at 3:30 PM.

I'll be speaking about why task lists so often turn into guilt-and-shame graveyards for ADHD brains, and how to build one that actually helps you get moving.

My session, Task and Ye Shall Receive: ADHD-Friendly To-Do Lists, is on Friday, December 4, at 3:30 PM. We'll cover:

  • Writing tasks that invite action instead of avoidance
  • Using reminders without going numb to them
  • Adding just enough structure to cut decision fatigue without triggering your inner rebel
  • When to prune, reset, or start completely fresh

If you're in or near Baltimore (or already headed to the conference), I'd love to see you there! Registration is open, and early-bird pricing runs through December 1.

Not anywhere near Baltimore?

Like with many of my conference talks, I'll be doing a practice run for members of The ADHD Guild on Thursday, November 12, at 10 AM Pacific. It's open to every tier, so if you've been thinking about joining The ADHD Guild and this topic is calling your name, now might be the time to try it out.

Holiday deals for the rest of us.

You can check it out with a discount: we have a set of holiday discounts this year. All memberships are at least 25% off of 1-3 months and you can compare them here — join by November 11 and you're in for the practice talk.

I hope you've had as lovely of a summer (and fall) as I have. Have the most amazing Halloween!

Our littlest pumpkin’s first Halloween (the hair is already in costume).

And reach out! I would honestly love to see Halloween pictures from y'all this year, if you're comfortable sharing them. Or if you're also into agentic AI, I would love to see some pictures of what it's doing for you!

Or is there a topic you're wanting to hear more about from me? Let me know! I submit my talk slides on the 15th, and I'm aiming to record the week after that.

Happy Halloween!
